Jay LaBarge is a business and transactional attorney with expertise in corporate and real estate law, banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions and probate and estate planning.
Jay has extensive experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating purchase agreements and leases, and handling sales, acquisitions, property tax appeals and other commercial, residential or industrial real estate matters on behalf of clients. His corporate practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, corporate formation and reorganization, and contract review.
Jay also has extensive experience representing lenders and borrowers with commercial loan documentation, commercial real estate financing, and workouts, including foreclosures and deed in lieu of foreclosure transactions. His estate planning experience includes trust administration and drafting of wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and other probate and estate planning documents.
Jay is the third generation of his family to practice law in Michigan, following his grandfather, J. Russell LaBarge and father, J. Russell LaBarge, Jr. Prior to joining Strobl & Sharp, Jay was a partner, along with his father, at Bellanca LaBarge, P.C. He spent the first nine years of his legal career at Bodman PLC, where he was a partner in the real estate, corporate and banking practice groups.
Jay received his law degree from Wayne State University in 2002, graduating magna cum laude. He also served as Executive Note and Comment Editor of the Wayne Law Review.
Jay obtained a BBA from the University of Michigan Business School in 1997 and earned his CPA License while working at PricewaterhouseCoopers prior to attending law school.
